As Landlocked heads into its third year, the call for entries is open as of February 1, 2009. Full details are here: www.landlockedfilmfestival.org/call2009.htm.
Competition categories include short and feature-length narratives and documentaries, as well as student and animated films and feature-length screenplays. Each category will have first and second place awards given by jurors who are independent of the festival organization. The 2009 festival will take place at the historic Englert Theatre and other nearby locations in downtown Iowa City from August 27-30, 2009.
We’ve had dramatic growth in our first two years, with more than double the attendance in its second year and over 8,000 film viewings. Said one filmmaker who watched her film with a packed audience in August 2008: “My experience as a filmmaker at Landlocked was excellent! I was really floored by the incredible turnout for all the screenings and panels which I attended…. The efforts on the part of the festival to bring in filmmakers from out of town, and to connect local filmmakers was truly valuable and I made many contacts in the regional filmmaking community and beyond that I am sure will be sustained.”
Another filmmaker agreed: “I had a blast watching all the films and meeting people there.” And yet another: “We loved the festival! You guys have amazing community support.”
These are actual reports from actual filmmakers. We love treating our filmmakers like VIPs.
